Does Florida Medicaid cover ABA therapy?

Yes. Florida Medicaid covers behavior analysis (ABA) services for eligible children under 21 as a medically necessary benefit. Families typically need an autism diagnosis or qualifying evaluation, a referral, and prior authorization — and a provider like Paramount Behavior handles most of that paperwork for you.

What Florida Medicaid actually covers

Florida Medicaid covers behavior analysis services for children and young adults under 21 when they are medically necessary. That includes the initial behavior assessment, an individualized treatment plan written by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), one-on-one therapy delivered by certified technicians (RBTs), and ongoing supervision and plan updates.

Coverage flows through an approval process: your child's need is documented, a treatment plan is submitted, and Medicaid authorizes a specific number of therapy hours. Providers then work within that authorization and request renewals as your child progresses.

What you'll need to get started

Three things, in most cases: (1) active Florida Medicaid coverage for your child — including Medicaid managed-care plans; (2) a diagnosis or comprehensive evaluation that supports the medical need for ABA; and (3) a referral or prescription from your child's doctor. If any piece is missing, a good provider will tell you exactly how to get it.

At Paramount Behavior we verify your child's Medicaid benefits for free before anything starts, and our team manages the prior-authorization paperwork end to end. Most of our Medicaid families pay nothing out of pocket for covered ABA services.

What about private insurance?

Florida law requires many state-regulated health plans to cover ABA for children diagnosed with autism. Self-funded employer plans follow federal rules instead, so coverage varies — which is why the only reliable answer is a benefits check against your specific plan. We do that check for free, in plain language, before you commit to anything.
